Prof. Giampietro Schiavo is Senior Group Leader at the Cancer Research UK London Research Institute (London, UK) and Honorary Professor at University College London. He studied with Prof. Cesare Montecucco at the University of Padova (Italy) and with Prof. James Rothman at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He was awarded the Giuseppe Borgia award of the Italian National Academy of Sciences in 1993, the International Society for Neurochemistry Young Scientist Award in 1995, the Giovanni Armenise-Harvard Foundation Career Development Award in 2002, and the CARIPARO Visiting Professor Fellowship in 2009. Dr. Schiavo has performed pioneering studies on the mechanisms of action of bacterial protein toxins and their exploitation as specific tools in cell biology.
