Francisco Grandas, MD, PhD

Dr. Francisco Grandas is the Head of the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital Gregorio Marañón and Director of the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Research Unit of the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Gregorio Marañón in Madrid, Spain. He is also an Associate Professor of Neurology at Complutense University in Madrid, Spain.

Dr. Grandas received his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of Oviedo University in Oviedo, Spain, and his doctorate from the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain. Dr. Grandas served his residency in Neurology at the Hospital General de Asturias in Oviedo, Spain, and completed a fellowship in movement disorders in the Department of Neurology of the Institute of Psychiatry of King’s College London, England.

Dr. Grandas is a member of the European Federation of the Neurological Societies/International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society-European Section (EFNS/MDS-ES) Subspecialty Scientific Panel on Movement Disorders. He is also a member of the European Panel of Experts for evaluation of COST (Coordination of Science and Technology) projects of the European Union for the domain of Medicine and Biotechnology.

Dr. Grandas is a member of several peer-reviewed medical journals, including Parkinson’s Disease, the Journal of Degenerative Diseases, and the American Journal of Neurodegenerative Disease. He is also a reviewer of numerous journals, including Movement Disorders, the Journal of Neurology, European Journal of Neurology, CNS Drugs, Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy, Journal of the Neurological Sciences, and Neurotoxicity Research.

Dr. Grandas is the author of over 100 papers on Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders. He also serves as a reviewer of research projects for the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation).
